A weekend without human contact....

And here is what I saw....

The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver.... man was this a long book. 507 pages later I don't know that it was really worth all that time. I think the story itself was somewhat interesting. There were about 5 pages around the 400 range that were beautifully written and insightful. Nice little twist at the end but that's about all I can say about that.

Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls... I read this in one sitting. I thoroughly enjoy her style of writing. She provides glimpses into human motivation that are simple yet reflective somehow. I really enjoyed her first book, The Glass Castle, as well. This is similar in style and set against a beautiful backdrop of the American Southwest. Highly recommend as good summer reading.

Return to Paradise... yet another Netflix pick. This was the boy version of Brokedown Palace, in every way possible. I would say that if you are looking for a moral dilemma set in a southeast Asian prison, go ahead and get Brokedown Palace. It has a better storyline, cinematography, music, acting, and on and on and on.

Up next... Anne Lamott's Imperfect Birds and Much Ado About Nothing.
