I saw....

I saw... Law & Order: SVU - "Fallacy (2003)"... This episode tackled a difficult trans gender case. I thought it was actually a very human look at a very complex issue. The entire episode was heartbreaking and (sorry to ruin it) the ending, tragic. It made me feel sad that people can be so incredibly full of hate. The issue of gay, bisexual and trans gender rights isn't a moral controversy. It is nothing short of a human rights issue. No one has any right to judge someone based on sexuality. Everyone has the right to personal safety and happiness. Period.

I saw... Food, Inc. ... On the whole, I agree with many of the issues and problems presented in this documentary. As Americans, we eat terribly. We've learned horrible habits and been trained into largely unhealthy diets. A reeducation is necessary. I'm having a little trouble with the solution though. The filmmaker presents that we should buy local. Support local farmers and take the business away from mass produced meats and produce. While I agree in theory, I also believe that our economy IS a direct result of supply and demand. The mass production is supplying our larger demand. So is a shift to local buying a realistic solution? I haven't decided yet... I do like the idea of buying local. It sounds so much simpler and healthier. The bottom line is that either way you are affecting "local" farmers... you are just taking business away from someone else's locale. Hmmm....

I read... Tefilat HaDerech... "May it be Your will, LORD, our God and the God of our ancestors, that You lead us toward peace, guide our footsteps toward peace, and make us reach our desired destination for life, gladness, and peace. May You rescue us from the hand of every foe, ambush along the way, and from all manner of punishments that assemble to come to earth. May You send blessing in our handiwork, and grant us grace, kindness, and mercy in Your eyes and in the eyes of all who see us. May You hear the sound of our humble request because You are God Who hears prayer requests. Blessed are You, Adonai, Who hears prayer." I liked it =)

I saw.... Thunderstorms, lightning and lots of rain! Summer has officially arrived in Florida!

I read... The Reason For God... I've only gotten through a couple chapters but I'm having a little trouble with some of the logic. Unfortunately it is a logic based book.

Quote of the Day: "America has Zen students in the past, has them in the present, and will have many of them in the future. They mingle easily with so-called worldlings. They play with children; respect kings and beggars; and handle gold and silver as pebbles and stones." -Nyogen Senzaki
